i'm pretty sure my big brother told me (much to my parent's pleadings for him not too). i don't really remember how it happened but it wasn't traumatic (or maybe it was SO traumatic and that's why i don't remember???)

Your little parantheticals after his unreasonable requests made me laugh... too cute.
And sadly, I remember learning the truth like it was yesterday. I was so small- only in 2nd grade. My "boyfriend" (yeah... which really only meant that he would always pick me at recess to be on his flag football team) and I sat next to each and other and we were drawing pictures for Christmas. I was drawing Santa Claus... and he said, "So you know he's not real, right?" And, being the oh-so-cool 2nd grader I was, I simply said, "Yeah, of course I know that." I had no idea. So I rushed home that night and couldn't bring myself to ask my mom. She knew I was acting weird. And finally I spit it out. I asked my mom if Santa was real. You'll never guess what she said, "Well, no... we're the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy too." WHAT!?!??!? I curse her to this day for that bad parenting move. Crush ONE of my dreams... why detroy the others too?? Sheesh!!

I think I heard someone say it when I was very young, and when people asked me about Santa from that point forward, I would answer nonchalantly, "Psh, he doesn't exist anyway, helllooo?!" What a snob, eh?

aawwe how cute!!! i cant waaiiitt!!! [my baby is 8 months old.] idk what to do in the future for public tantrums. Idk if i like the idea of pushing the Sant thing personally, because i don't wanna be blamed for lieing later, But i bet when the time comes, i'll most likely use that one!!!

my sister and i found out santa was mom, becasue i recognised her hand writing on a tag of a giant red bag that read to: michelle from: Santa..i knew it was my mom. I guess it wasnt as big a shock becasue earlier that year i got an IOU under my pillow from the "tooth fairy' im my moms handwriting.

I remember the exact moment when I found out Santa wasn't real! I had asked for a barbie pink, stretch limo. I got it! When I opened it I was so excited that my dad forgot it was a gift from Santa and said, "Thats the first thing we bought you!" I was like SHOCKED!

I think I first realized Santa wasn't real when I was about 9ish. I was the oldest of three in my family so I didn't have any older siblings to ruin it for me. When I finally asked my parents they turned it back to me and asked me what I thought was true and why. I think I was most worried that I wouldn't get presents anymore if I admitted to knowing they were really Santa. But they assured me that wasn't true.

Then they threatened my very existence ;) not really, if I told my younger brothers before they figured it out on their own.

Oh and I still ask Santa for a pony every year...I am still waiting.

I think I went through a gradual unravelling of the Santa thing which was finally complete when my mom brought out the presents in plastic grocery bags and set them under the tree on Christmas morning. I was about 15 when that happened.

I don't know when I learned "the truth". I think it was just a gradual realization. Santa brought good stuff so I kept it up as long as possible too. ;) I'm having a tough time with my 4 year old, and I have pulled the Santa line way more than I thought I would!

I say, use Santa as long as you can! It's tradition and it's fun. I do remember the first Christmas I "knew". I was afraid to get up Christmas morning. Daddy had to come get me. I was afraid I wouldn't have anything for Christmas. Of course, I did though.
