Bartender! Healthy Cocktails Please!

Even with Holiday Parties quickly filling up your social calender quickly, you can still maintain your healthy lifestyle. Just pass on the spiked hot chocolate and instead, ask the bartender to stir you up something that delivers some health benefits and is low on calories. Of course though, always remember, a lot of something is never good, so limit your intake. And please, please have a designated driver!


Skip: Cosmo
Sip: Champagne

Let's toast! Champagne is festive and actually has a healthy side. With a high level of polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant, Champagne has been shown to protect the brain against injuries incurred during a stroke, and neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. A 4oz. glass sets you back only 85 calories.

Skip: Eggnog
Sip: Sangria


With the main ingredients including raw eggs, cream, rum and grips of sugar Eggnog, delivers 340 plus calories. Go for Sangria instead with only about 150 calories. And, the vitamins and minerals in the orange juice and fruits are a plus {vitamins A, C, B6, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, calcium, iron, and magnesium}. Plus red wine is listed as protecting against heart disease and cancer, and white wine is good for your lungs. Both will help increase good cholesterol and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Studies are also showing that vodka could help in treating heart problems and certain cancers. Top the sparkling water with a lemon or lime wedge for some extra flavor.

Bloody Mary's have been found to reduce risks of cancer, damages associated with osteoporosis and diabetes because of the antioxidant, lycopene, found in tomatoes. Tomato juice also has less sugar content than fruit juice. One Bloody Mary is about 140 calories.

    In my house its all about the vodka and slivovic. I am a big fan of bloody marys too! I think the real issue is how people mix. Whisky, wines then deserts which have rum in them. So not good for the system!!
