{image}The late Thomas Reilly and his team at the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences, at Liverpool John Moores University in England, discovered that people who worked out in the morning had lower maximum and sub-maximal heart rates. But their perception, of how hard they were working was the same in the morning as it was later in the day. It has also been noted that athletes and their world records were typically set in the late afternoon or evening time. Kinda makes you go hmm.
The study of Chronobiology {the biology of time} is a fairly new science founded by Dr. Franz Halberg, professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota. Chronobiology encourages us to listen to the internal tunes of our bodies for optimum health.
After conducting many tests, Chronobiologists discovered the following timetables for peak performance. See if you agree:
Peaking in the morning: Your sex hormones and alertness. Also, your sensitivity to allergens are said to be at a low.
Peaking at noon: Your body temperature. Also, your mood is at its best and your sight is the sharpest.
Peaking in the afternoon: Your flexibility, long-term memory and your manual dexterity.
Peaking in the early evening: According to some experts, this is the best time for working out but possibly the worst time for allergies.
Evening lowest peaking: Metabolism.
Midnight: This is potentially your most accident-prone time period.
Happy Thursday Friends!

Well, that's good news, because I plan to go for a walk with my Mom this afternoon. :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard that you shouldn't eat anything high-carb after 7:30pm because you'll retain the fat; but it seems like everyone always wants to have dinner so late anymore!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes...I have seen the movie. In fact, I own the movie - and I kind of want to watch it right now. I've wanted to be Dawn forever - she was always my favorite BSC character...followed by Claudia!! :)
Hmmm that kind of makes sense. I am lame and can't wake up before 6 and work early, so we hit the gym after work. Although I feel accomplished when I work out in the am, I get super tired coem afternoon. Thanks for this research!
ReplyDeleteFood for thought... whenever I do a quick twenty minute workout at night I always lose weight quicker. I wonder why I don't do that more often???
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! For myself, peak sexual or workout time in the a.m. is a no go... I'm def not a morning person, so the only thing I want in the a.m. are breakfast and coffee ;) Afternoon and early evening are my best times for any physical activity ;)
ReplyDeleteIs this TMI?? LOL!
xoxo J
Oh good! Now, I don't feel so bad when I roll over and decide to workout at night instead of the crack of dawn. LOL
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great week...Happy Almost Friday! :)
xoxo

I like to work out in the morning but since I wake up at 5 already I would have to wake up earlier than that for a workout and I would crash and burn in 2 weeks (as I've tried before). I like for my long runs to be in the morning but for the most part my workouts are in the afternoon and evening except on the weekends. On the weekends I sleep in so it's not "that early". Interesting food for thought!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting . . . I've tried to wake up early (before work) in the morning to work out, but I just can't do it. I'm so much more energized in the evenings and I feel like I can work out much longer/harder. Then again, I am most definitely NOT a morning person . . . ;)
ReplyDeleteInteresting information. I need to have my husband read this! Thanks! ;p
ReplyDeletehow interesting! I wake up at 5 to get ready for work (I'm a teacher and I commute), so there is no way I could work out in the morning anyway. I've always felt guilty about not working out in the morning because I've always thought it was the best time to do it. Now I know that my early evening workouts may be better after all!
ReplyDeleteThis is so freaking awesome b/c normally I work out after work, early evenings. Gawd I'm a flippin genius! ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thursday iva! Oh and happy april!
I am NOT a morning person but I feel better if I work out in the morning (although I find myself much hungrier during the day.) If I wait until afternoon, I end up tired and think of a million reasons not to work out. I find I'm in a happier mood all day if I do it (work out) in the morning too.
ReplyDeleteLove those morning workouts!
ReplyDeleteoh yea. i am a super morning girl.... :) love it
ReplyDeletethanks for the comment sweets. so happy to see your blog. i love it!
I make morningcardio before brekfurst few times a week but my workout at gym i do afternoon or early evening-it works for me.I never eat high-carb after the lunch.Intresting post!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Nuheila
I think you can also train you body - I used to play tennis at lunch time and come lunch time my body got ready to move.
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting! I workout in the evening so yay for me haha.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I wish I could get up early to work out so it was done and over with. But I need to walk 15 minutes to and from gym so it's easier to just do it after work when I get right off the subway. I know I could potentially get ready at the gym, but I like getting ready with the news on, drinking my tea, etc. I don't like hectic mornings!
ReplyDeleteInteresting - I debate this with my husband all the time because he likes to work out in the morning, but I simply don't have the energy to do it. I run slower, I get tired faster, etc. I am MUCH better later in the afternoon after I've had all day to gather energy. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of this most of the time. But I wonder if sleep patterns change any of this. What about the people who sleep all day and work all night?
ReplyDeleteOh that is interesting. I would agree with a lot of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comment. I'm following you now :) xx

ha! so funny because i'm completely backwards.. and midnight is probably my finest hour. i've tried to change into a morning person for 23 years now! guess it's not gonna happen.
ReplyDeleteI usually work out two to three days a week from 7 to 8:30 pm. Works great for me. Oh, and midnight being peak accident-prone time? Yup. Checked that one off the list. That's my peak time to run into furniture. :)
ReplyDeleteThere is no chance of me being up at midnight anyway unless I am out with friends! ;) All my exercise is done in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the research into this!
I'm definitely on board with the alertness first thing in the morning. For the last two days, I've embraced getting up at 5:00 a.m. and arriving at the office at 6:30. I have been more productive in the hour and a half alone before anyone else gets there, than I am toward the end of a normal work day!
ReplyDeletethis is an interesting post. thank you for sharing these facts!
ReplyDeleteI believe in listening to our bodies for optimum health, we know how we feel and usually instinct is the best way to go :)
love your blog!
You always have such interesting posts! This explains why I like to wake up at noon lol
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting! I am going to bookmark...
ReplyDeleteAnd the first one explains alot about men, hehe ;)
i'm starting to live a healthy lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteI go for a walk in the afternoon with my son.
I wanna live longer. Life is beautiful!
Thanks for posting this! I love random health info like this. xx
ReplyDeleteThis is so good to know!! No reason to wake up early and work out ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is fascinating. I'm passing this info on to my kids as well. Thank you, great info.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter weekend to you x
if i could drag myself out of bed i would so much rather work out in the morning. i feel so much more motivated when i don't have a days worth of food sitting in my stomach
ReplyDeleteamazing study!
ReplyDeletei totally agree with every item...hehe.
♥ bags of love giveaway | vanilla ice cream ♥
Interesting...I'm a bit opposite to this study though. My worst time for allergies is in the morning, and I definitely get my best workout in the mornings too! haha. I just find my energy is lower in the evenings. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I've always thought that doing anything too strenuous in the morning is hazardous for your health. :-))) ...my personal opinion anyways.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Easter!
Interesting stuff! I only workout after work, so I guess I'm in the clear :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI don't work out so I know waking up even earlier than I already do to get in some exercise would be torture. Lol.
This is so interesting! I always work out in the morning, maybe I should rethink this. Great post! Have a nice weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds just about right, except I always work out at 4:00 AM. Is that considered morning or night :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. It's always nice to see a new face!
it sounds like some interesting research. for me, if and when i do work out, it's when i can simply fit it into my schedule. i know i can't get my butt moving early in the morning although it would make sense for my allergies to exercise earlier. oh man, there's so much to think about. it's making me tired!
ReplyDeleteCool blog, just found it. If you want come see my giveaway. (Music)
ReplyDeleteohh, thanks for all the info! Love your blog, and thanks for stopping by mine!
