{image}So while you may have rolled your eyes and sneaked your veggies under the table to your dog, when mama said "chew your food", but she may have been onto something.
Chewing your food makes you realize you are full: making you more likely to eat only what you need to vs munching because it tastes good... or out of boredom.
The more you chew your food, the more nutrients and energy you absorb from the food. {By chewing, you receive about 15 to 25% of the nutrients inside the food}
Chewing your food, allows your brain to send a signal to your tummy that you are done eating. It also improves digestion helping break down food more before it sits in your stomach.
A few ways to help get it right:
- Chew each bite at least 20 times. On average people only chew 5-10 times.
- Rest and drink in between bites; Slow down and try and prolong your meals.
- Remember that meals should be an enjoyable part of your day.
Happy Monday! I hope you had an awesome weekend!

Eye opener!!! thanks so much for posting! I've been trying to lose weight for a little bit now. I constantly tell my husband that he can eat what he wants just in moderation and the right serving... i never stopped to take the advice myself!! i don't need to eat everything on my plate all the time!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to do better about chewing, but I never thought you can get more nutrients out of food if you chew it! Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteI try to put my fork down between bites so that I spend a little more time chewing.
ReplyDeletethis is so true! you always have the best tips! i tend to hurry when i eat, and that isn't doing me any favors!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually chewing my lunch as I read this! lol! Totally right. One of my diet things I do is chew gum alot & try to eat my food slow so I thoroughly chew my food. It does help eventually! =)
ReplyDeleteill definitely have to start chewing more
ReplyDeleteThanks Iva!
Great advice! Thanks!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing! I will chew more for sure!!
ReplyDeleteThis is one tip that I really need to do... I eat so fast... I sometimes forget to chew my food. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead! xoxo
Good to know! Does this still count for those durn Reese's peanut butter cup eggs? Those things will be the downfall of me this Easter.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post and didn't really think about it before.. thank you!
ReplyDeleteGood advice and good nutritional facts. I will try to eat before I get too hungry, so that I won't wolf the food down. :)
ReplyDeleteoh i wish i could followe these simple tips
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me a comment! :)
ReplyDeleteGood advice about chewing! I honestly don't ever think about how often I chew my food but slowing down would probably help!
Awesome! I am going to slow down and chew slower! Then hit the gym Fergalicious style!
ReplyDeleteGood reminder. I've also read that you should put your fork down after every bite. Eating slower really does help with portion control! :)
ReplyDeleteMan do I agree with you. So often I don't take the time to actually ENJOY my food. I eat mindlessly and don't actually taste it! No wonder I over-eat sometimes!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting! I will definitely be more aware when I chew. I'm sure I am eating way more than is necessary. I love these tips!
ReplyDeleteI'm so going to try this!!! My mom used to say she chewed 100 times per bite. I'm not sure that's true but it's worth a try. XOXO
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you stopped by my place today! Thanks for the well wishes...I'm starting to feel slightly more like a human being finally. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love these tips; they seem like common sense maybe, but I have been guilty of not always following them. Great reminders!
I really need to slow down at meal times, I feel like I am always eating too fast. Often times I will have seconds at dinner only to realize later that I am way too full and probably would have figured it out without seconds had I only waited a little longer...
ReplyDeleteWOW you are so right! I'm gonna start chewing more. I eat way too fast, which makes me eat more than i need to! great post!
ReplyDeletegood tips and love this picture :)

I am the slowest eater on the planet. My friends give me so much crap about it! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! My mother ALWAYS told me to chew chew chew. Honestly, when I'm in a hurry chewing is incredibly hard, though. LOL
ReplyDeleteI try to chew more than 5 times but after a while my jaw starts hurting. However, after reading this, I'll surely do better! Thanks for sharing. ;p
ReplyDeletewow i love your blog!! are you an aspiring writer for nonfic/health issues??
ReplyDeleteFabulous advice. It's why some many other countries out there are nearly as obese as us here in the US. They take the time to eat properly!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree!
ReplyDeleteI told my brother this all the time...he doesn't chew-chew-chew!!
Wonderful week Iva~xo
You are always full of good advice! :)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about any of this! How interesting!
ReplyDeleteso is this the knew trendy diet? chew your food and shed some lbs.
ReplyDeletehmmm, sounds like my college diet...take a shit lose 10 lbs. haha.
haha i love this post, mainly because i can relate to it so well! all of my friends make fun of me because i eat SO SLOW and always hold everybody up when we go out for lunch/dinner, but i literally have to chew each bite like 25 times. i have always loved food and when i was little used to scarf plates upon plates down, but i think when i was 14 i mustve almost choked to death because since then i chew more thoroughly than a food processor! haha but yes, at least my metabolism thanks me for it :)
ReplyDeleteWhenever I leave your blog, I'm happier or I've learned something :) That is why I love stopping by.
ReplyDeleteAlso- my beautiful ring came in the mail today. I adore it. Thank you so much again!!
I'm one of average 5-10 chews people. I know chewing your food well is good for our digestive system but didn't know about the losing weight part. This is really interesting. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteI'm like the world's slowest eater, so I'm pretty sure I do really well in the chewing department =)
ReplyDeletePs- in the picture of you on the top right where it's real bright and you're pushing up your hair, you look like Rita from Dexter. Has anyone told you that before? And if you don't know who I'm talking about, look her up. She's super pretty!
Great tip! I've heard it before, but man I am impatient:-) Guess it would help to slow down!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Happy Monday to you too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip.
that really is good advice. especially when your super hungry and just start shoveling food in. ok maybe only i do this
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a cute photo!
ReplyDeleteI am jealous those people who just eat and eat
but they don;t get fat eh!
Great tips as always! :)
ReplyDeletemy husband always makes fun of me for being a slow eater but a swimsuit doesn't scare me. i win.
ReplyDeleteThat is really interesting. I knew it's better to chew but didn't realise we get more nutrients from it. And I'm quite a slow eater so I think that's good :)
ReplyDeleteLovely colorful blog you have! I like anything that makes me smile, so now I am you humble follower! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Thanks for sharing this & have a wonderful week :-)
ReplyDeletei'm chewing more already!!!
ReplyDeleteRianna Bethany xxx
Great tips! have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good reminder. I catch myself reading at the table and just gobbling everything up like a vacuum - NOT a good idea. BTW, your hair is amazingly awesome.
ReplyDeletethis seems like something that should go unsaid, but it's some of the best advice in terms of digestion..ever! i was reminded of this a few years ago when a specialist realized that i wasn't really chewing a whole lot. it has made all the difference in the world!
ReplyDeleteSomething that I really need to work on...I tend to inhale my food. I come from a family of 3 brothers, so maybe I had to fight for my fair share as a kid??? hmmm...something to chew on. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
i am TOTALLY going to try counting at dinner tonight and see if i can do it! i know i don't chew enough and my tummy tells me so.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chewing idea! I will start that today!!
