I Love You...

Happy Friday Friends! Have a great weekend!
Some people say it more openly and more often, others hold it exceptionally close and use it less frequently. In a friendship it might be said far sooner without much worry whether or not the other person may or may not say it back. Maybe it's even taken for granted. While in romantic relationships, 'rules' apply and it might take a certain number of months before it's said, waiting for the perfect moment or feeling, as each holds their breath just waiting for the other to say it first...and then hear it back.

...What does "I love you" mean to you?

Love the quote. It's absolutely right on. You can never say I love you enough. Say it every day. Because it's the nicest thing you can hear.

Cafe Fashionista said...

Ohmigosh Iva I LOVE this!

It really depends on the context. In a romantic relationship I feel that it means that you are completely giving yourself to the other person.

In a friendship, however, I feel that it can be taken for granted. It is kind of just cast out there without any true backbone at any time.

Also...I think there's a difference between saying "I Love You" and just saying "Love You." One seems more personal, more sentimental, than the other. At least to me!! :)

Awesome quote!
I always say I Love You too soon in a relationship... I guess I wear my heart on my sleeve!

Fab weekend, darling Iva!

Between the hubs and I we sure do say it a lot, LOL. My BFF and I say it whenever we get off the phone or see each other (which is a rare occasion these last few years). It really is so important to express it. Some might think that saying it all the time makes it mean less, but if you really mean it, shouldn't it mean more?
One time I met S at his office and waited downstairs at the lobby, as he got off the elevator he saw me and smiled, but he was still on a call (they get reception on their office elevators) with one of his clients. Since he was looking at me when he got off the phone, he said "I love you" to his client. A male in NYC. He freaked out when he hung up, but too late...what're you gonna do call back and say "I didn't mean that". LOL, I loved it. Of course I got blamed but I didn't care, it was worth it.
Happy weekend, Iva!!!

I totally agree with the quote. I say it spontaneously all the time, when I really feel appreciative or surprisingly affectionate, but I think it's difficult to bring yourself to say when you truly mean it for the first time. I recently said it to someone after carrying my feelings around for more than a year, and it was beautiful to be able to express that.

Nicole Marie said...

i love that. l love you means i'll put you infront of me and do anything for you and give you lots of kisses and hugs and love you even when you drive me crazy

these are the some of the most important words one can say. they mean so much, and they need to be said with all sincerity. at least that is what i think! :)

missy. said...

it means a lot of things - but mainly a feeling that you can't explain with any other word and that you can barely contain yourself anytime you see that person. it's a rare and wonderful feeling that doesn't come around very often but when it does - it is priceless.

Down and Out Chic said...

i hated saying it before i met b. now, i say it all the time. when you mean it, you mean it.

That's such a great quote! I say I love you about a million times a day lol.

Nice reminder!!! :)

I think I'm probably one of those people who say it WAY too much, but I just have so much love to share with the world...

I love you means: no matter where we are or what time of day it is, I will love you and everything about you, no matter what.

DShan said...

Those three words mean quite a bit. They mean that the way I've told you that I care about you is something that won't ever end.

I've said those words romantically a few times, and I still deeply, deeply care about each person that's heard them.

Meredith Travels said...

To me, I love you means forever. I will always be there for you; I will always be your friend; and even after things change (because things always change) if you need someone at 3 am you can ALWAYS call me: I'll be there for you forever.

This even goes for my jerk of a cheating ex-bf. When his father died unexpectedly this summer I was there for him once again.

Happy weekend all!

I dont tell friend 'I love you' unless we are very close. Its a word that gets used too often but I do think its acceptable to say 'i love those shoes' because its appropriate in THAT context.

I think too many of my friends end phonecalls to people they dont care about with the words 'love you' and it pisses me off!!

I havent done the love you thing with the bf YET.. and its killing me because for once in my life im sure 100% how I feel. So i agree with the quote.. when you feel it its nice to hear it as many times as you can.

Only when you cant say it do you realise how truly important it is. Its killing me that i can tell my friends and family i love them but not the biggest love of my life!

Ahh I hate the fact im so stubborn i want him to say it first!!

I think it is a commitement to honestly love unconditionally. If you feel you can't love unconditionally then you shouldnt use the word.

I love you means so much to me, especially because my BK took 2 years to tell me this, so I really knew he meant it! I love saying I love you to my family too. :)

awww iva...this post is so cute. why i'm only seeing it now? i dunno but i will say "i love you" means the world to me.

sometimes it's used too loosely. i know, i'm guilty of that...and other times it can take a lifetime to be said. lucky for me, i hear it a lot and say a lot to the ones i love. when you feel it, you just gotta say it!

♥Aubrey said...

I Love You is definitely NOT a word that i take for granted. I say it when i feel it...and it has to mean something to the other person as well.

The most important words you can say. Definitely don't say it if you don't mean it. But loving someone means you trust them implicitly - at least that's how I see it! :)

haha i'm the type of person who has a hard time saying i love to someone romantically - even if i do love that person. my boyfriend hears it occasionally from me, but he knows i do by the way i do things for him & with him.

so i think actions speak louder than words because nowadays, everyone can just say it but won't really mean it.

Love that quote..

But I say I love you when I love someone. Just because life is too short. and I love without fear or boundaries.

TheLittleFlower said...

The quote is soo true!! Nowadays people are saying it beacause they just feel like saying it,they don't actually mean it.

Strawberryblush said...

It means I choose the other person above myself. A choice. A commitment to care. But never just a word.

'i love you' is a feeling. it's such a simple phrase, yet, it's meaning is so overwhelmingly complex.

I say I love you to the LG a lot. He does not say it as often. But when he does say it, it's with so much sincerity. I prefer this over someone saying it wayyy to much.

Have a great weekend!

unconditional. real. bliss. My ringtone for my family is "I Just Called to Say (I Love You)" by Stevie Wonder. It makes me smile whenever they call to say hi. Love makes the world go round, so people need to say "I Love You" a lot more. Have a great weekend, we're snowed in here in PA!

I love you means forever..it means that you can't ever take it back because you've seen something so beautiful and wonderful in another person. Even fights can't get rid of love.

"I love you" (in Finnish "Minä rakastan sinua" or "Rakastan sinua") means so much to me. Only my husband says it to me and I say it to him. We say it often and we always mean it.

Between friends I can use words dear and darling and I mean it... If I am very happy I can say "I love you" to whole world:)

Have a lovely Sunday, my dear friend!

In Spanish we have two different ways of saying it.

I love you for friends/family is "te quiero" and some people say that to their boy/girlfriend, husband, etc.

"Te amo" is what you usually would say in a more romantic way. It's more used in Latin America than in Spain I think.

Anyway I say it in Italian too since my boyfriend is Italian.

"While in romantic relationships, 'rules' apply and it might take a certain number of months before it's said, waiting for the perfect moment or feeling, as each holds their breath just waiting for the other to say it first...and then hear it back."

I quote that because I just felt like that and didn't say "Ti amo" (I love you - romantic; "Ti voglio bene" is what they say as "I love you" to friends in Italy) until some months together, I just wanted to FEEL every single word of it. And it was worth it to feel it. Now I hear it every day. :-)

Loved this post girl, and thank you so much for your comment on my blog!
xx

Your post reminds me that I should say I love you more often. When I say it to my friends it means "I'll have your back no matter what."

When I say it to my dog it completely unconditional and a love far more powerful than any.

When I say it to my boyfriend, it means I love everything about him as a person.

Have a good weekend Iva!

Beautiful post ... simple, but so powerful and to the point :) I find it's a lot easier to say "I love you" to my girlfriends. Fortunately me and my boyfriend said "I love you" pretty much at the same time and there was never any hesitation. It's a shame when someone says it too early and the person says it back just to fulfill an expectation but doesn't feel the same way. And it's amazing when that those three words are mutual.

Hope you had an amazing weekend Iva :)

I think I'm guilty of colloquially saying "love" too much. Like, I love that blog, or I love that jacket. But when it comes to relationships, it is a really meaningful word that shouldn't be thrown around. Gabriel and I say it to each other every day, but not obsessively...we still want it to hold its meaning and not be taken for granted :) Hope you had a wonderful weekend Iva!

I love you, to me, means the way I mean it towards my Reece. When I say it, I'm promising him so many things, and I mean it every single time. And hearing him say it to me is infinate times better than listening to the greatest song ever written. Oh, yes it is!

words can't describe love. for me anyway. it's a feeling. a swelling of the heart, a peace that is indescribable. thank you for asking!

I'm not one to say it often. Even with my husband. I know a lot of people fall into the habit of saying it every time they get off the phone, etc. and I think that's great but we're not like that. I think its great when its said and not expected/habit.

I think to really love someone is putting them and their happiness before your own (of course they should do the same). Its not selfish or possessive or jealous. Its supportive and giving.

I probably don't say it often enough to my friends....and too soon in relationships (though I've only been in one of those for over 10 years now, so I guess it worked out alright!). I don't know why it scares me so. I guess because I worry the feelings aren't mutual or I'm too much of a softie/care too much.

Great quote - saying I love you for the first time is a very vulnerable, scary thing - it's hard to put your heart out there. But once I feel comfortable saying it to someone, I never, ever hesitate to tell them how I feel. Life's just too short.
