{image} Every now and then I get this sudden urge to to wear red lipstick. I'm not sure what triggers the inspiration, but I can pretty much count on it becoming a driving force, and I embark on a red lipstick hunt mission. I cringe at the idea of testing the lipsticks at the counter, so I'll stain my hands all over, pick out a few I think are 'just right' , race home, fully excited that this time, I found the perfect shade of red. Then the same cycle begins, I feel its too orange, or too bright, or simply just not the one.
My most recent accumulations are NARS Jungle Red
{"bright red"} and NARS Dragon Girl {"siren red"}, as well as NARS Lipliner Pencil in Jungle Red
{"class red"} which happens to go quite well with Dragon Girl. So, while I am still not 100% convinced I have nailed my perfect shade of red lipstick, Dragon Girl is very close to what I think I am looking for {Jungle Red is a bit too orange for my complexion, but does looks stunning on so many}.

Red is the most difficult color to find ever! It's either garish, clownish, or lady of the night-ish, and it tends to bleed onto the face and teeth.

ReplyDeleteomyGOD! the eternal search for the right red lipstick could drive one mad! i am usually more fond of lipgloss than lipstick, but red lipgloss doesn't always work. humph. and i have big, brown eyes, so i usually play them up. if i add red lips to the mix i tend to look a little overdone. gah. but i still wouldn't mind finding the right red. i have probably spent a small fortune on lipsticks and lipglosses in my lifetime, and very few seem to work! it is tricky, as sampling on face in the store is OUT. ew!

ReplyDeleteI almost have too many to choose from. But I think one of my faves is a Kat Von Dee shade. When I get home, I'll have to dig as I haven't worn red in a will... need to get out the crest white strips before I wear it again. hehe

ReplyDeleteI love red lipstick, but it's so hard to find the best shade for my skin tone. The best bet to prevent the nasty "lipstick bleed" from feathering into the skin around your mouth is to outline your lips with a plain wax lip pencil, or to use those 2-step systems where you paint the color on and let it dry, and then apply a gloss over it.

ReplyDeleteGreat choices! I like Nars lipsticks and pencils (only thing im not a fan of is their glosses.) They have very nice color payoff and arent too drying!
ReplyDeleteIt took me forever to find the perfect red. After 4 years using Lancome and Guerlain... I found my holy grail red in Rouge Volupte by YSL no 16.

ReplyDeleteI think red lipstick looks great on other women, my mom wore it all through the 60's and this was hooker red in those days. For me, it just turns orange on me no matter how many shades I try. for the most part, I just stick with pink shades with brown undertones.

ReplyDeletei love red lipstick and so far have found two...one by maybelline which i bought on the fly that actually looks good and the other by MAC which was a gift. the first one has a hint of purple so it goes well on me. the MAC one is more of a true red. i like it on but not in pictures.
so i guess i haven't found "the perfect shade" but so far i think i'm on my way.
I can't handle the red, but for those of you who can, go for it!
ReplyDeleteDUDE! Iva!! I just bought NARS Jungle Red about two months ago (it was for my Harley Quinn Halloween outfit, needed a kickass red lipstick) and I have to tell you that it is THAT red lipstick that speaks volumes and looks gorgeous on blondes everywhere.

ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to find my shade for the past like 3 weeks, LoL! I'm nervous about wearing such a vibrant color like red, I'm so used to lipgloss & sheer colors. I have full lips...so I always think I'm going to look like a clown or rediculous...I'mma try it though, like SOON!

I tried red the other day for the first time. It lasted about 5 minutes before I wiped it off. So, no, I don't think I've found my perfect shade. I usually just go with lipgloss.
ReplyDeletei love wearing red lipstick during the day with jeans a white tucked in loose tank and a chunky knit sweater. the res lips are totally downplayed by the casual and trendy outfit....but it just works! I found a revlon one that is moisturizing and the perfect deep red color!

ReplyDeletewould you like a tip? take the few shades of lipstick you have purchased, that aren't quite right...apply an eye pencil over the full of your lips (pencils are cheaper, and if they aren't right you can use them on your eyes too and you aren't out anything....brown to darken...if your lipstick is too orange, or too bright, you can easily change the entire shade of stick to one more pleasing by using pencils that are versatile...and allow you to have many shades of lipstick, with a simple flip of a pencil cap....
