vs.
only 60-65% of other social network members have at least one member
*Men and women follow a similar number of people
but
men have 15% more followers then women
and
men reciprocate a follow more often then women
{odd because:}
*Women are a bit higher majority of users at 55%
*A man is almost twice as likely to follow another man then a woman
and
a woman is 25% more likely to follow a men then a woman

* Results can not be explained by number of tweets
because
men and woman tweet the same amount
*Over half of Twitter users tweet only once every 74 days

* "the top 10% of prolific Twitter users accounted for over 90% of tweets"
* "men and women find the content produced by other men on Twitter more compelling than on a typical social network, and men find the content produced by women less compelling"
The results of this study are very surprising because, past research of other social networks, has found opposite results:
* Top 10% of users account for 30% of usage
*Women are more likely to use social networking services(SNSs)
*Men receive little attention from other men
However, there are other studies that suggest:
*Women are more likely to use social networking services(SNSs)
*Men receive little attention from other men
However, there are other studies that suggest:
*Men are much more likely to have multiple social networking services
*Women are more likely to use SNSs to foster connections
*Women are more likely to specifically name their best friend
*Of the men who blog about their romantic relationship, they use just as strong expressions as women
*Women are much more likely to have private profiles
*Women are more likely to maintain up to date pictures
*Women are more likely to use SNSs to foster connections
*Women are more likely to specifically name their best friend

Basically, I think we can take from this: a lot more research has to be done :)

Haha, this is so interesting. Could men be more active users simply because they're always glued to their cell phones?? :)

ReplyDeleteInteresting. I still have yet to create a twitter account.
ReplyDeleteSuch interesting stats - need to go & peruse all this information!
ReplyDeletexxLOL LOLA:)
Hmm...I wonder what the stats would be on people using it for marketing/business vs. those using it for personal reasons. Interesting stats. I don't quite know what to make of them, and I agree that more research has to be done.

ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see the research done 30 years from now on how social networking sites have affected our generation. Are they making us lose our face-to-face communication skills?...are they making us addicted to instant gratification when it comes to news? Sorry, I'm fascinated by all this.
ReplyDeleteI have a twitter account but really don't use it, but great info!
ReplyDeleteHaha I love these little stats you do! they are so interesting and entertaining! Have a fabulous day my darling xxx

ReplyDeleteHmmm, interesting survey, especially how men are more likely to return a follow.
ReplyDeletePeople like freaking Ashton Kutcher make up for 90% of tweets! He is so dang annoying I had to stop following him. I always had a feeling my tweets are less than compelling to men but now we have solid evidence :-)
ReplyDeleteI know I have several social networking sites I am a part of. And now that I think about it, most of my followers and people I follow on twitter are women. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteWahhh interesting!
ReplyDeleteI'm still a tweeter Dumb...
Men & women- the difference goes on & on...

You are the research queen, way to sort out the twitterverse!
ReplyDeleteBlog Goggles has a point. The hubs is constantly looking at his phone. I look at mine a fraction of the amount. So, if we're out he always sees FB updates where as I don't usually check it out until I get home. Hmmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I wonder if I'll ever be a Tweeter. Seems like once you start there's no going back. Just blogging is enough to keep my plate full, LOL.
ReplyDeleteThese are definitely interesting stats. Thanks for sharing!
