I have also noticed, that people like to take you down with them, when something has either gone bad or tastes gross. They take a bite, make a face, sound a gut wrenching noise that carries across an entire vocal range spectrum, and then go "this is gross, here try it" or "I think this has gone bad, smell/try it". Seriously? You actually need me to confirm this for you? Thanks but no thanks, lets just take your word for it.
So, I wonder why I am not so on top of makeup expiration dates? I know the rough estimates when foundations, shadows, glosses, etc. have gone bad, but I do not actually follow them so well. Gasp. I know. Tisk tisk, Iva! Anyway, Cargo has a little something that I think would, hopefully help me actually pay more attention to expiration dates.

Lipgloss can grow bacteria pretty quickly, as we double dip the wand. Saliva, along with the formula, creates an environment that bacteria thrives in. At most we should hold on to a gloss 6-9 months {if you even have it that long :) }. Cargo has come up with an nifty little solution. They've embedded their glosses with Timestrip technology. We press the timing strip down into the cap of the lipgloss tube, and the Timestrip window will turn red with time. After nine months have passed the entire window will be red, and it is time to part ways with the gloss.

this is delightful and makes me want to buy it even more.
ReplyDeleteIva!
ReplyDeleteThis is great info...never in my wildest dreams did I think about an expiration date for make-up, but it makes total sense!
You are such the 'in-the-know' tip girl!
~Melissa
Haha....Yeah, you know where I am with expired food these days. I like Cargo's idea. I've noticed that you can totally smell when makeup's gone bad too. I have some gel liner that was perfectly fine last week, but it smells nasty this week. Lip gloss too. Actually, it's probably been bad for awhile, the smell just means it's extra, extra bad now. Eww. I need to pay more attention.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh, im ashamed too! i never check the exp dates. hmm now i have something to do when i get home! haha and an excuse to go by more :) always count on the good info from iva! have a wonderful day girlie, love u!
ReplyDeletethis is very helpful!! I never know when makeup goes bad except for mascara... i cant let that go near my contacts, yuck!! xxxoo
ReplyDeletethat is so cool! they need to do that with mascara and everything else too. i totally ignore makeup expiration dates. bad me, i know, but usually i don't have that problem with lip gloss. it runs out way too quickly for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is embarrassing, but I really had not even thought about a make up expiration date! Yikes, I better dig through my make up bag! And it kills me when people try to get you to try something nasty, I believe you, I am fine and will pass on the sour milk thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty rubbish at remembering sell by dates on make up so this would be cool!
ReplyDeletexx
like you i am FREAKED about expired food! never will it go down my throat!
ReplyDeleteunlike ME, my mom will just cut mold off of cheese and EAT IT!!! perish the thought!!!
i have to admit that i haven't really paid much to old makeup. i have a bucket of stuff that i never really dip into (except if i am EXTREMELY desperate!) that should probably be chucked!
huh, that is very interesting!
ReplyDeletethanks to you i'll probably be throwing out a few lipglosses tonight!
i'm a germ freak so i keep up with my makeup. i'm also a makeup whore so go through it pretty quickly anyway.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely one to be careful with expiry dates. Plus I always feel that if I would not be comfortable accidently eating a little of it, I have no business rubbing it onto my skin or lips! Hope you're having an absolutely fabulous day dear :)
ReplyDeleteI don't wear a lot of makeup so i am horrible when it comes to throwing it out when it's old. An experation date would be a life saver for me.
ReplyDeleteThats awesome! I watched a news segment on make up expiring but geez how am I supposed to keep track!?! Thanks Cargo and you for posting it =D
ReplyDeleteYikes. I never even think of my makeup expiration dates. Unlike food, it's not something they advertise on the product (or, at least that I can see). How scary about the lip gloss...
ReplyDeleteOkkk, I should not have been eating when I read the first part of this post, haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm bad about make up expiration dates. I hold onto make up forever. That makes sense about the lip gloss though.
This is amazing! I wish all makeup had this... makes me want to buy all Cargo :)
ReplyDeleteoh that is a great idea! have have so many lip glosses i cant keep tabs on how long i have kept something for! xooxoxoxox
ReplyDeleteI'm horrible with makeup expiration...I probably have stuff in my makeup bag from the 8th grade.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite good at all these...I wash all my make up brushes once a week & throw away those old make ups...I refuse to try those make up testers we find at the dept/drug stores....gross me out! Am I being to paranoid here? Well, It's better to be safer than sorry I'd say~
ReplyDeletexo*
Ugh- you don't even want to know how many stale lipglosses I have laying around!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, they do smell.
That's cool. I rarely think about that either with makeup! Bad, I know!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty good about glosses and mascara(3 months tops for mascara) but I'll hang onto the oldest of my MAC eyeshadows...I figure how bad could it be, LOL? Plus I keep the containers so I can participate in their recycling program and get a free lipstick or eyeshadow :) Though I'm sure if we saw what was living in there, we wouldn't need much motivation to get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteOh no about that thing in your food - yucky. I also don't like hair in my food, are you the same? Once went to a wedding and I found hair in every single course...all 5...including dessert. Whoever was in the kitchen was having some serious issues...
People often forget about this... my doctor told me that mascara is the worst! She said there are actual bugs in it! Ewww!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really smart invention! I must say I'm guilty of holding on to make-up for waaay too long! (eeew, I know right?!) I'm just waaay too lazy to have to buy something new when I know there are some leftovers still! hee(; okaay, time to wise up! thaaanks, iva (; xx
ReplyDeleteVery true! Make-up should have expiration dates. As it is now, it's such a waste, but if some make-up of mine has been sitting around for almost a year I generally throw it away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info!! I'm so bad with makeup expiration dates too.
ReplyDeletei have so much makeup that i periodically go through it and try to remember how long I've had some of it. even if i barely used it but i know it's old, I'll just throw it away. better to be safe than sorry!
ReplyDeleteCargo has hit the jackpot on this idea...FAB.U.LOUS indeed!!!
ReplyDeleteEwwww bugs in your food is the worst. I was somewhere last week and they served me a tray with a tiny one on it. I jumped back so fast...and the waitress saw my reaction and did the same. She immediately got me a new dish, but honestly...my appetite had gone. ~VAMOOSHED~
What an amazing idea! I am horrible w/ makeup and expiration dates...sometimes the packaging is just too cute to throw away! Cargo's idea is perfect for this though! Hope you have a lovely Friday! :)
ReplyDeleteO my god, shame on me! There's make up in my basket that I've had for years! Granted, most of it remains unused but I never knew there was an expiration date on it. Thanks for informing us! :D
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! They should have that on all makeup because I think most of us don't pay as much attention to makeup expiration dates as opposed to food expiration dates.
ReplyDeleteSuch useful information! Many thanks!
ReplyDeletexxLola:)
That's a really good point about lip gloss!! I've heard that mascara can be dangerous if it's too old as well, but I've never heard of anyone being affected by expired mascara, so maybe that isn't true.
ReplyDeleteas for food, I know EXACTly when it's going to expire lol, I'm the same way!
Fab post, darling!
ReplyDeleteI should definitely toss about half of my makeup!
xoxox,
CC
You know, never really think about makeup expiring. Pretty gross actually, and the fact that I spied in my makeup bag and noticed how old some of the stuff is----icky!
ReplyDeleteI need to toss half out that stuff.
wow cargo is so on top of their game, what a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI suck at makeup expiration dates. But not with food. No siree!
I'm horrible about expirations too....nothing bad has ever happened to me because of it
ReplyDeleteand you are totally right about people bringing you down with them when there is something in their food!
Brilliant. :)
ReplyDeleteXx
